Hello, OOJH Families!!
Sickness hit my house this week. I hope you all are healthy and well!
Next Tuesday students will begin iReady testing. As testing begins we will be telling students they need to focus on the test and finish the test in a timely manner. We are framing testing in this way because we had quite a few students take an excessive amount of time to finish the iReady test during the Fall testing window.
We understand that some kids - like my own older daughter - take extra (not excessive) time to do their best on the test. Doing your best is something we recognize as a positive trait. It is something we want to encourage. Alternatively, we also recognize that other students fail to finish the test on purpose (gasp) in order to miss instructional time and learning (double-gasp). This is not positive.
In sum, if your child is trying to do their best by taking extra time, tell them NOT to stress when they hear the general message about needing to focus on the test. If your child is taking an excessive amount of time “just ‘cause,” please encourage them to focus and finish. Lastly, please remind your children to make sure their iPads are charged for testing. A charged iPad is essential!
